Florida PIP Statute - Cheap Auto Insurance Quotes

Florida has a new PIP statute in effect as of January 1st, 2008. Personal Injury Protection in the state will still pay medical expenses limited to $10,000. However the coverage extends only as far, as to services that are lawfully provided, supervised, and ordered by licensed physician, osteopath, dentist, and chiropractor.

The reason for the update on the PIP statute is because of all the Florida no fault insurance fraud cases found. It has been found that there have been many shams in filing fraudulent claims of injury for the purpose of enriching themselves by exploiting the misfortunes of others.

If you are to read the legal report about the PIP statute, you may expect to spend a few hours looking through dictionary to understand what they were trying to say. Nevertheless, to make it easier and to inform the general public, we are to look directly into the conclusion part of the report. The conclusion for the report goes along to say that because of the easy flow of money made available by this system, in addition to dishonest and greedy lawyers, PIP is taking a large portion of Floridian's insurance budget.

The method used by these dishonest people is by filing reports to the cheap auto insurance companies by simply making a call to the insurance companies on behalf of the names found in police reports and telling the insurance companies that they have seen a doctors and or chiropractor. The claims are often found to be overcharged made by unprincipled doctors.

As a result, most of the time, the real victims are left with no coverage and little to show for the time spent in medical care. To combat this, the reformed PIP statute recommend not allowing the sharing of police reports to anyone other than the victim and their insurance company. This will hopefully close the door to the opportunist that has no claim whatsoever to the police report. Another recommendation is the regulation and the licensing of all medical facilities in the state.

Other recommendations include raising public awareness to the issue of patient-brokering and solicitations by attorneys. Improvement of audit procedures to identify suspicious billing patterns addressed to the insurance company and also to report them to the authorities. Also lastly, is to keep the policy holder informed about the law concerning the use of attorneys through the use of enclosure in their billing statement.
