Cheap Wyoming Auto Insurance Quotes
As a consumer living in Cheyenne, WY,
I would like to let others know what I’ve discovered about Wyoming auto insurance, as well as what’s important to consider (in my opinion) when looking for car insurance in this state or any other for that matter.
I have been driving for 35 years and have never had a ticket or an at-fault accident. I’ve had the same insurance company for nearly 23 years. Year after year, I have paid my premium and never filed a claim. I have an “old clunker” and only keep it covered with the basic liability insurance. I know that they say to increase your minimum limit amounts to be better protected; but heck, the little I drive, it’s not worth it to me. Besides, when I do drive I don’t see that many cars on the road anyway.
After 23 years with the same company I found out that they were offering cheaper auto insurance rates to new customers compared to what I was paying. I recommended my insurance agent to my new neighbor who just moved here from Montana and needed to change his vehicle over to Wyoming requirements, including his auto insurance.
After he met with my agent one evening, he called me to thank me and gave me some details about the insurance policy he bought and the price he paid. To my utter amazement, he was paying $400 a year less than what I was paying. Now that is what I call cheap auto insurance in Wyoming. Our vehicles and personal characteristics are similar, except that I have been with them for 23 years. I thought to myself that this can’t be right and called my agent to ask some questions.
It turns out that auto insurance companies frequently adjust rates to attract more business to new customers. I was receiving cheap auto insurance quotes but I was still paying more than what they were quoting to new customers. My “former” agent said that this is a common practice with insurers. I asked him if he could match the rate that was given to my neighbor; he said it wasn’t possible. The next day I began doing some research and found a new company for $475 less for the same coverage and limits. After 23 years, I am now insured with a new company. Who could have imagined this?
I would like to let people know that they shouldn’t assume that they are receiving the lowest rates possible even if they have been with their company for many years. Insurance companies may not raise your rate if you maintain an accident and violation free record, but they may not lower your rate to what new customers with similar driving records are receiving.
From this point forward I will check out the market each time my policy is about to come up for renewal. I can think of a lot better things to do with my money than to give it to an insurance company. I would recommend that everyone do the same in Wyoming or in any state for that matter.
