Cheap Indiana Auto Insurance Quotes
As an agent that has written numerous cheap auto insurance policies in Indiana throughout the last 40 years, I feel compelled to offer some insight to consumers regarding automobile insurance.
I became a licensed insurance agent in 1970 at a small family-owned Indianapolis
insurance agency. In the beginning, I was mainly writing home and life policies for several insurance companies that our agency was affiliated with. Automobile insurance was nothing as it is today. In 1970, our agency did offer auto insurance, but it was not nearly as competitive as it is today. It really was not even that profitable at the time for us. In 1970, many people did not even buy auto insurance. Our target market was predominately life insurance.
How things have changed in the last 40 years. Cheap auto insurance has become one of the major money makers for agencies around the state, and the country for that matter. In the 70’s, 80’s and even 90’s the competition was not as fierce as it is today. With each passing decade more and more insurance companies began offering and competing on the auto insurance market. It’s no wonder as millions of new cars and drivers hit the roads each year.
Even small insurance companies of the past now include vehicle insurance in their products for sale. Things seem to have switched around when insurance companies were all offering home and life and the minority was also offering automobile insurance. Now, the opposite is true – everyone offers auto and only larger companies offer other insurance products.
Anyway, my goal for writing this article is to inform Indiana residents of the importance of comparing quotes and reading the Indiana Department of Insurance. This is an extremely competitive market with all types of pricing. Don’t forget to ask any questions about the discounts you may qualify for. You also want to make sure that you insure yourself adequately.
If you decide to let an insurance agent find quotes for you, make sure that they are independent and not affiliated with just one company, or else that will be the only rate quote you receive.
Please make sure that all of your information is accurate and up to date. I am talking mainly about your DMV and credit record. These two factors (with emphasis on DMV record) determine a large portion of your rate. Request a copy of your driving and credit record and review them carefully prior to buying insurance. You’d be amazed at the inaccuracies that are on these two reports. If you find anything incorrect be sure to correct it as soon as possible.
If you keep yourself educated about the insurance market as much as a consumer can, you’ll be sure to receive cheap auto insurance quotes on all of your insurance products, especially automobile insurance. Don’t forget about looking into bundling your policies as well – this is the best way to save as much as 25%.
